Story

The first memory Ashaaryx can tell you about is being nudged awake just outside Limsa Lominsa with a single knapsack of belongings. The name Ashaaryx was scrawled on an envelope among some loose papers such as maps and writs, and without a name of his own, the name was given to him to use as his own.By the grace of the gods, he was fortunate that there were people willing to take a chance on someone starting anew in Limsa. Though Ashaaryx had no past to speak of, his courteous personality and dependable work ethic endeared him to the community and he found his place among the folk of the port city.Eventually, he felt secure enough to stand on his own two feet and decided to try and find answers to the gaps in his memory.Now, back on his own two feet, he's built a new life for himself going around the realms doing little deeds wherever he can to help others in need and get to see the world while he's at it.

Are you in need of a courier, a friend, or a kindly do-good stranger? Ashaaryx can never say no to someone asking for his assistance if they seem like they need it, no matter how mundane or excessive the task. Neither is it difficult to convince him your really need it.

I know a guy who knows a guy

Mostly because of his penchant for trying to help as many people as he is able to, there are a surprising amount of people across the realm with whom he can boast a friendly relationship. As unlikely as it seems, he might be contacted to the most random of people.

Not a word

Unable to speak, Ashaaryx relies on many roundabout ways to communicate with others. Besides gestures and miming, Ashaaryx usually has a journal handy to quickly scribble down words or draw pictures. Still, there is plenty of opportunity for miscommunication.

The real Ashaaryx

The word was indeed a name, but not his. The name's past owner perhaps was not as affable and friendly as he is; the name does appear to have a horribly negative reputation. Some have said swindler, others have said debt-dodger, and others, even more specific still: "morally bankrupt antiquarian". What could possibly go wrong there?

In the before times

Ashaaryx has absolutely no recollection of anything about his life before the Calamity. Although he's accepted that he might never find out, Ashaaryx still can't help but be curious about his past, his heritage, and how or why he was in Limsa Lominsa.Is he really Qestir? Was Ashaaryx really his name? Anyone who can provide any information at all would be gods sent.

The most plausible origin story for him is likely that he was of the Qestir tribe. But further scrutiny would find that Ashaaryx's mutism is not by choice-- the faint scar around his neck, further obscured by his scales, paints a clearer picture.A single name has come up for someone from the Steppe that he might fit the profile of: a since disappeared boy from the Qalli tribe named Altojin.
